Las Vegas is home to over 50 golf courses of which some are private, some semi-private, and some public. I've attempted to find all the courses available that are less than one hour from the McCarran airport, with telephone numbers to schedule tee times. As I expand this information, I hope to provide details about each course that will be attractive to the golfer. Angel Park features two Arnold Palmer championship golf courses, the Palm and the Mountain. Badlands Golf Course has 27 holes of target, desert style golf at its' finest, designed by Johnny Miller and Chi Chi Rodriguez. Black Mountain Golf Course is a semi-private, executive course. This Las Vegas Golf club offers enjoyable golf at an affordable price. The course is located in Henderson and is nestled in the shadows of the Black Mountains. It is one of the oldest golf courses in the area and is challenging. Boulder Creek Golf Club has the two nine-hole courses currently open for play are the Desert Hawk and Coyote Run, with the Eldorado nine still under construction. Designer Mark Rathert, built a forgiving experience at Boulder Creek. In fact, forgiving is the key word when describing Boulder Creek. The fairways are wide and well-maintained. Callaway Golf Center 6730 S Las Vegas Blvd Las Vegas, NV 89119 (702)896-0999 This course is a complete golf facility where you can be outfitted with everything you need whether you're a scratch golfer or a beginner. It also features the Callaway Golf Performance Center where your play can be evaluated and you can get instruction and suggestions to help better your game. The signature hole is #6, which measures 124 yards and features a waterfall and a stream along its left side and its back facing the Las Vegas Strip. The course was officially dedicated to him just before its grand opening in February, 1997, and a commemorative plaque was placed on a pine tree located in the center of the course's putting green. The layout, which is located on 106 acres in eastern Las Vegas, features six acres of lakes that come into play on nine holes, abundant wildflowers and more than 3,000 pine trees, which are landscaped throughout the site. It utilizes the forward tee system, pioneered by Alice Dye, which enables beginners, juniors, and seniors to play a round using the same clubs as a golf professional would use. Desert Rose Golf Course 5483 Clubhouse Dr Las Vegas, NV 89122 (702)431-4653 This course is friendly to all skill levels. The gently rolling fairways are fairly open, and the greens have undulation. Two washes run through the layout and are considered lateral water hazards. The owners spent $3 million on a two-year capital improvements project for the course and clubhouse that was completed in 1997. Jim Colbert and Jeff Brauer redesigned the course in 1985. Durango Hills Golf Course, designed by Lee Schmidt/Brian Curley and is a public 18-hole par 58 golf course. It opened for play in November 2002. This course is very close to the Strip and has become a favorite to local golfers. Eagle Crest Golf is a par-60 course that measures out to 4,067 yards with the longest hole being 403 yards. The shortest hole is 112 yards. With three par-4s on the front and back sides, the average round at Eagle Crest takes just more than three hours. Los Prados Golf Community is a moderately priced gated golf community located north of the strip on Craig Road and Rancho about a 20 minute drive.
